The design of New Zealand Posts Stamp Annual 2012. This is the first edition designed within a set of three.
My challenge was to build on an already successful design and add to it. No mean feat as it was already a beautiful publication.
The book features 12 stamp editions, one for each month, of the past year, and is a collectors item, often sent overseas as a gift celebrating New Zealand. The opportunity was there to feature more of each of the stamp art-work at full size. I used art taken from each of the stamp editions created by all of the varied designers and added more colour and texture throughout the layout featuring these designers work, layering up a rich tapestry.
The overall theme of 'take a closer look' was settled on, as each stamp takes a deep and closer look in on a topic. I featured a circular window on each main title page that shows a scene, and then zooms in to a detail from that scene... taking a closer look throughout the book.
The result is a gorgeous coffee table book that showcases New Zealand art, graphic design and culture through stories and stamps.
(And yes we did a photoshoot with a live Gecko! No mean feat but he was a real poser!
